She meets Michelle and Maggie, two of the Paper Sisters, who have been hired to be her local guides. When Nenene's hotel suite is bombed, the Sisters volunteer to help protect her. After spending the night at the Paper Sisters' apartment (where she meets the third sister, Anita), a jealous rival holds her hostage at her book signing, but he is foiled by the three sisters. Nenene is excited to see their Paper Mastery, but is disappointed to learn they have no connection to her friend, Yomiko Readman, who has been missing for four years. When Nenene is attacked on her way home to Japan by another rival, the Sisters follow and rescue her.
